DJ Filastine - Pirate Radio 89.1 Mix

Right, people theres a world of music out there ripe for the embracing or colonisation and marauding of, and a bit of ethnic flute on your downtempo or reggae in your d'n'b just isn't really trying. You can blame 'Deep Forest' all you like for your paranoia of using anything exotic, but thats just not good enough. Some people are doin it right, and none with more gusto or a more rawkus bag of tricks than DJ Filastine.

In celebration of his first LP out on DJ/Ruptures Soot Records we bring you 2 Scheiße-heiße mixes, which show off his talents at mulching a revolutionary sound out of arabic, rai, latin, ragga, grime, french-hip hop, drillcore, speedbase and anything else that inspires. Or as he puts it "deteriolization of sound that embraces the intense, wherever its origin, with disregard for the ghettos of electronic music"

Hes an politically motivated yet entertaining cat, lives by the slogan "have incendary beats will travel..." Playing anywhere that needs it : "clubs are great, better are odd spaces; money is no bar at bookings for junkyards, liminal festivals, or decrepit boats"

If you do book him youll find out that his "Equipment is sometimes mounted in a shopping cart or otherwise delivered via customised mobile sound systems"


First up is a ruthless mix for a pirate radio show he did back in 2004, and contains the best shut-the-fuck-up-bush-&-blair audio montage to be placed in a mix to date : "happy ramadan Osama Bin Laden..." rocks in at exactly 10minutes. Quite.
